Abstract

More than ninety percent of corn, sugar beets, soybeans, and canola are genetically modified. Modified genes, such as herbicide tolerance and pests removing toxins, pose dangers to the environment, inducing greater appliance of chemicals. This leads to changing behaviors of the pollinators and reduces genetic diversity. Moreover, GMOs can cause allergies from altered genes and bring adverse health issues. However, certain GMOs can benefit developing countries if technology reaches the level of producing crops with enhanced nutritional values. Managing the balance between GM and non-GM crops can contribute to solving global warming and food insecurity.
